Jalur pendakian ke Gunung Semeru yang memiliki ketinggian 3.676 meter
dari permukaan laut di perbatasan Kabupaten Lumajang--Malang, Jawa
Timur, ditutup pada 5 Januari 2015.
"Penutupan tersebut rutin
dilakukan setiap tahun untuk memulihkan ekosistem kawasan setempat,"
kata Kepala Balai Besar Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru (TNBTS), Ayu
Dewi Utari, Sabtu.
Musim hujan yang
mengguyur gunung tertinggi di Pulau Jawa tersebut dikhawatirkan terjadi
cuaca ekstrim, tanah longsor, dan rawan pohon tumbang di sepanjang
jalur pendakian, sehingga membahayakan pendaki.
"Dikhawatirkan
terjadi badai akibat cuaca buruk, sehingga jalur pendakian mulai Senin
(5/1) pekan depan ditutup sementara," tuturnya.
Menurut dia,
pihaknya menerbitkan izin pendakian kepada wisatawan domestik dan asing
hingga 3 Januari 2015, sehingga diharapkan pada 5 Januari 2015 jalur
pendakian Semeru sudah steril dari pendaki.
"Sabtu ini merupakan
hari terakhir para pendaki yang naik ke gunung yang memiliki ketinggian
3.676 mdpl dan mereka harus turun paling lambat Senin (5/1)," katanya.
Penutupan jalur pendakian gunung api juga mengacu pada Undang-Undang
Nomor 5 Tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan
Ekosistemnya yang menyebutkan penutupan jalur pendakian dapat dilakukan
karena kondisi membahayakan dan alasan kepentingan pemulihan ekosistem.
Setelah resmi ditutup, lanjut dia, petugas TNBTS bersama sukarelawan
dan pencinta alam akan membersihkan sampah di sepanjang jalur pendakian
Semeru.
"Meningkatnya jumlah pendaki selama liburan sekolah yang
bertepatan dengan libur Natal dan Tahun Baru 2015 menyisakan sampah yang
cukup banyak di sepanjang kawasan, sehingga harus dibersihkan,"
paparnya.
Padahal, petugas TNBTS sudah mengimbau pendaki untuk
membawa kembali sampah-sampah itu turun, agar ekosistem kawasan taman
nasional tersebut terjaga dengan baik
