Puncak Suroloyo adalah puncak tertinggi di Perbukitan Menoreh, Yogyakarta.[2] Perbukitan yang memiliki ketinggian kurang lebih 2000 meter dpl ini membentang sepanjang Yogyakarta dan Jawa Tengah.[3][2] Dari Puncak Suroloyo, wisatawan bisa melihat Yogyakarta dari atas awan dan bisa melihat langsung keindahan Candi Borobudur di Kabupaten Magelang, Jawa Tengah.[2][4] Di Puncak Suroloyo terdapat tiga buah gardu pandang yang secara umum disebut pertapaan, masing-masing memiliki nama Suroloyo, Sariloyo dan Kaendran.[3] Selain itu, Bukit Suroloyo juga merupakan tempat yang menyimpan cerita legenda.[3] Legenda ini mengkisahkan seorang Raden Mas Rangsang yang kemudian hari bergelar Sultan Agung Hanyokrokusumo, bertapa untuk menjalankan wangsit yang datang padanya.[3]
Legenda
Legenda mengenai Puncak Suroloyo bermula dari seorang pujangga bernama Ngabehi Yasadipura dari Keraton Surakarta yang dalam kitabnya berjudul Cabolek.[5] Ia mengisahkan bahwa Raden Mas Rangsang, Putra Mahkota Kerajaan Mataram Islam, pernah menerima wangsit untuk menjadi penguasa tanah Jawa.[5] Raden Mas Rangsang harus berjalan kaki dari keraton di wilayah Kotagede menuju ke arah barat.[5] Setelah menempuh perjalanan dengan jarak sekitar 40 kilometer di wilayah Pegunungan Menoreh, ia jatuh pingsan karena kelelahan.[5] Dalam pingsannya, Raden Mas Rangsang mendapat wangsit yang kedua.[5] Wangsit tersebut memerintahkan agar Raden Mas Rangsang, yang ketika besar bergelar Sultan Agung Hanyakrakusuma, untuk melakukan tapa kesatrian di tempat itu.[5] Tempat itulah yang sekarang disebut dengan Puncak Suroloyo.[5]Wisata
Ada tiga pendopo di Puncak Suroloyo.[6] Pendopo pertama ialah Pertapaan Suroloyo.[6] Lokasinya Pertapaan Suroloyo berada di paling bawah dibandingkan dengan dua pendopo lainnya.[6] Dari sini wisatawan dapat melihat Candi Borobudur.[6] Pendopo kedua bernama Pertapaan Sariloyo yang terletak 200 meter ke arah barat.[6] Dari Pertapaan Sariloyo, wisatawan bisa memandang Gunung Sumbing dan Gunung Sindoro. Untuk mencapai pendopo ketiga, wisatawan harus naik tangga sekitar 200 meter lagi.[6] Pendopo ini diberi nama Pertapaan Kaendran.[6] Dari tempat ini secara samar-samar akan terlihat warna biru berbatas dengan abu-abu yang merupakan Pantai Glagah di Kulonprogo.[6] Semua pertapaan ini berada dalam satu area berdekatan di kawasan Puncak Suroloyo.[6] Puncak Suroloyo merupakan satu titik temu antara empat gunung, yakni: Merapi, Sindoro, Sumbing dan Merbabu.[6]Perjalanan Menuju Puncak Suroloyo
Ada dua jalur yang bisa dipilih sebelum menuju Puncak Suroloyo, pertama adalah rute Jalan Godean - Sentolo - Kalibawang dan rute kedua melalui Jalan Magelang - Pasar Muntilan - Kalibawang.[3] Untuk mencapai puncak Suroloyo, harus melewati perjalanan yang naik turun dengan kelokan tajam serta tanjakan yang curam.[3] Jalan menuju Puncak Suroloyo bisa dilalui motor, namun untuk mobil harus berhati-hati karena lebar jalan sebesar 3 meter.[6] Jika sudah melewati jalan sempit berkelok, jalan yang perlu ditempuh adalah tangga menuju ke Puncak Suroloyo.[6] Untuk mencapai Puncak Suroloyo harus melewati sebanyak 290 anak tangga.[6]

Legends about Suroloyo start of a poet named Ngabehi Yasadipura of Keraton Surakarta who in his book titled Cabolek .
